We’ve all gone to a website and been so frustrated with it that we navigated away and found something that worked the first time. Maybe it had too much going on for you to find what you’re looking for. It could have not answered the questions you were looking for answers for… whatever it was studies show that if your website is flawed in some major way your potential customer will not come back. If you’re looking to avoid this happening to you here is a list of things customers expect when they are looking at your website. |
Customers what to know who you are and what you’re all about. Tell your story in some way. Get them to connect with you and they’ll be more interested in your product. Be sure and mention your expertise, any awards you’ve won, links to articles about you or your management team etc.
WARNING: Keep it short! They don’t want to spend hours reading all about you.
2. What do you do and how do you do it?
On your home page you should have some kind of reference to what you’re all about. If you’re selling a product, mention it! You might be surprised how many companies fail to do this. Customers don’t want to search out more than they have to. Make it easy for them or they will find someone who will.
3. A way to contact you!
Many of you may be thinking, “Of course this is on every website, isn’t it?” The answer, surprisingly, is NO! Many websites fail to supply a phone number or mailing address for their company. I just want to ask them, “Why are you making it difficult for your customers to get in contact with you?” Make it easy! Have a contact us option on your tool bar with every possible way for them to get ahold of you. Many websites even have their address and phone number at the bottom of every page. Do what’s right for you, but make it easy.
5. Offer Clear Calls to Action.
You’ve seen “Click here for more information” on websites before. How often do you click? Most of the time if someone has come to your site they are looking for more information. So this kind of call to action triggers what they are already looking for. This is also true for “Sign up for our newsletter” and “Buy now.” Your customers want it as easy as possible. Telling them what to do to get what they need/want makes it easy for them.
